Get fit by walking around Aldeburgh

January is often a time for bold resolutions- You’re going to give up smoking, you’ll finally go on that language course or swim with dolphins. It is the time to be bold and often the most common one people want to do is “Get fit”

One of the easiest ways to get fitter is to get out and walk more. Studies have shown that is one of the most effective forms of exercise, especially with regards to low impact (so there is no excuse for people of all ages). There is the added bonus that it doesn’t cost anything and you can literally go at your own pace!

Of course for some people it can be hard to know where to start. Fortunately there are local set out walks that can make it easier to enjoy your stroll without the fear of getting lost. A great example is the Eastbridge Pub and Dog Walk. The great thing about this walk is that it combines a number of views (seaside, marshland, woods) as well as easy access to the National Trust Tea Rooms and culminates in a well earned stop at the Eels Foot pub (of course if you are doing a Dryathlon you can test your resolve there!)

The name Aldeburgh relates to its proximity to the River Alde so there are also walks and guided tours around the river itself. This is a tremendous opportunity to take in the peaceful nature that you can often see around this time, as well as the chance to get some incredible pictures to show off after a day of exploring.

Aldeburgh is also home to the famous Snape Maltings and it is worth keeping an eye out for the event listings as this is the place where you will often get a number of concerts, craft events and so forth. Oh and like all great coastal regions Aldeburgh is rightly famed for its excellent fish and chips, with many national media citing the area as one of the best places to get some (or another test of your New Year diet resolution)!

In short Aldeburgh is a great place to go if you want to spend a bit of time getting out about, allowing you to relax and enjoy the fresh air in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas that East Anglia has to offer.
